Case Study 1: Arrival
Mr Bearay presents to the Podiatry reception. The receptionist begins the process of creating the medical record by asking him to complete his contact and demographic details.
Notice the way the student greets the patient. The first podiatry competency defines the requirements for professionalism in all aspects of the podiatrist's work, including the interactions with patients and clients. The student has acquired knowledge and skills needed for clinical and professional practice, competency area number two.
Competency area three emphasises the need for excellent communication skills at an interpersonal and interprofessional level. As the student conducts the patient/client interview, which is competency area four, take note of his choice of language, his communication style and professional demeanour. What is done well? Would you change anything?
