Case Study 2: Welcome

Hello again, I'm Associate Professor Lloyd Reed, of the QUT Podiatry discipline. Welcome to Case Study 2. This case study is designed to help you develop skills in using appropriate medical and podiatric terminology to report your findings. The case study does this by demonstrating a number of medical and podiatric conditions. In the case you will see the appearance and effects of common foot and lower limb conditions. It introduces you to the changes that can occur in the skin and nails of the feet in the elderly.

The case directs you to other resources that are relevant to each part of the patient treatment encounter, for example the patient interview, the physical examination etc. Finally, the case study directs you to videos that demonstrate clinical techniques you will be learning to treat these conditions. Students commencing the clinical part of the podiatry programme find that the clinical skills such as using a scalpel to debride a lesion, are a very unique set of skills to acquire. The case study treatment videos have a written list of key pointers for each technique.

These will be helpful to remember as you practice these techniques later in the clinic.
