Achilles tendon
The Achilles tendon is an easily identifiable and palpable structure. The posterior aspect of the tendon may be palpated along its length from the middle 1/3 of the posterior calcaneus to its union with the gastroc-soleus muscle complex. The lateral sides of the tendon are palpable using your index fingers or by grasping the full breadth of the tendon between index finger and thumb. The anterior portions of the tendon may be palpated by using the thumb of one hand to push the tendon laterally or medially while the index finger of the other hand palpates the exposed antero-medial or antero-lateral component of the tendon.
