Femoral nerve

The femoral nerve courses through the femoral triangle alongside the femoral artery and vein. It arises from spinal nerves L2, L3 and L4 as part of the lumbar plexus. To locate the femoral nerve position your fingers as you did to find the femoral artery. Remember that to do this, you should place two to three fingers over the middle of an imaginary line between the anterior superior iliac spine and the pubic tubercle. From this position, curl your fingers laterally to form a clawed grip in the direction of Sartorius. The femoral nerve will be felt as a cord-like structure beneath your fingers.

Note that on a subject it may be easier to perform this with your patient's knee and hip in moderate flexion.
