The superficial peroneal nerve then divides into its two terminal branches; the medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerves. Both of these nerves descend through the anterior compartment of the leg, passing superficially to the extensor retinaculum to enter the dorsum of the foot. The specific course of each of these nerves is variable, however, given their superficial nature, they are often quite easy to visualize on your subject.
