Saphenous nerve

The femoral nerve terminates 1-2 cm below the inguinal ligament by giving rise to several terminal branches. The most major of these terminal branches is the saphenous nerve. The saphenous nerve provides cutaneous sensation to the medial thigh, leg and foot as it courses inferiorly from its origin. It may be palpated at the level of the ankle just medial to the tibialis anterior tendon.
