Tibial nerve distal

The tibial nerve can be palpated just posterior to the medial malleolus adjacent to the posterior tibial artery. The tibial nerve gives rise to the medial calcaneal nerve which is an important branch for clinical work. This branch arises just proximal to the terminal division of the tibial nerve it supplies the skin of the heel and medial side of the foot. Note that the tibial nerve courses through the leg alongside the posterior tibial artery.
