Navicular tuberosity skeletal

The next bony prominence you will encounter as you continue to move proximally from the medial cuneiform is the navicular tuberosity. The tuberosity is easily identified in most individuals and is located just posterior and medial to the insertion point of tibialis anterior tendon. The navicular tuberosity provides the main attachment point for the tibialis posterior tendon and therefore, activating this tendon provides another method for identifying the navicular tuberosity. Move the foot into a plantar flexed and inverted position and identify the tibialis posterior tendon as it becomes prominent behind the medial malleolus. Once you have identified the tendon at this point, trace it to its insertion at the navicular tuberosity. Note that some individuals may have an extremely prominent tuberosity due to the presence of the os tibiale externum accessory bone.
