Neck of talus and anterior ankle

The neck of the talus may be grasped from the anterior aspect of the ankle by placing thumb and index fingers over the medial and lateral aspects of the talus respectively. In this position, the superior surface of the neck of the talus will be located between the thumb and index fingers.

After identifying the location of the superior surface of the neck of the talus, the anterior border of the lower tibia may be identified. This border is located just superior to the neck of the talus and is most easily identified by dorsiflexing the ankle and curling your thumb in a superior direction against the tibia.
