  • Hot/cold perception
  • Light touch perception
  • Vibration (tuning fork)
  • Vibration (neurothesiometer)

Student: So Mr Bearay I just want to now assess your nerve function and one way I can do that is with this monofilament - so can I just show what it should feel like on your hand first - so can you feel that?

Mr Bearay: Yeah

Student: Great

Student: So for the purpose of this test can you just close your eyes for me - let me know if you can feel this and where about

Mr Bearay: The ball of the foot

Student: Great

Lloyd: Mr Bearay's neurological exam included

  • Assessment of pressure perception using monofilaments
  • Light touch perception using cotton wool
  • Vibration perception using a tuning fork and a neurothesiometer
  • Testing Patella and achilles tendon reflexes
  • Some of the test results showed loss of protective sensation in some areas of the feet.

Student: So Mr Bearay I am just going to assess your nerve function again - this one is just going to vibrate - I just need you to let me know if you can feel it vibrating at all

Mr Bearay: Yeah

Student: You can feel something - okay just let me know if you feel any vibration at all for me

Mr Bearay: Yeah
