Plantar interossei
The plantar interossei are three in number and they lie plantarly to the dorsal interossei. The plantar interossei arise from the base and medial sides of the shafts of metatarsals 3-5 and insert into the medial aspects of the bases of the proximal phalanges of toes 3-5 and their associated extensor expansions. The action of the plantar interossei is to adduct toes 3-5 and as such, remembering the acronym PAD may assist you with recalling this detail.
