Lateral anterior calcaneus

The distal component of the lateral calcaneus may be identified just proximal to the cuboid bone. To expose the anterior articular surface of the calcaneus, stabilize the bone posteriorly and keep your thumb overlying the cuboid bone. Then adduct and supinate the forefoot from this position in order to partially expose and project the anterior articular surface or cuboid facet of the calcaneus. In order to more fully expose this facet, you may be required to bring the forefoot into adduction, supination and plantarflexion.
